If I don’t have a website yet, can I just install WordPress?
Yes, once you have a domain name and hosting account (where your files are stored). You can follow the tutorial below. Go to your cPanel area and find the “Fantastico” button. Check out the guide below for a complete 5 minute tutorial.
Once the blog is installed, how do I start writing and publishing?
Go to www.yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/
You will need your username and password to log in. It is a good idea to bookmark this webpage as you will use it regularly.
INSTRUCTIONS to Install WordPress with Fantastico
Using Fantastico is the simplest and easiest way to install WordPress on your website. It should take you less than 5 minutes, as you don’t need to do anything manually.
Fantastico will set up the database for you, upload the needed files and so on. Once you find the button in your cPanel area, you are good to go.
The screenshots are based on a www.hostgator.com account, so yours may be a little different.
Step 1 – login into your cPanel area [www.yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/]
Step 2 – Click on [Fantastico De Luxe]
Step 3 – Click on [Wordpress] on the left side menu
Step 4 – click on [New Installation]
Step 5 – Fill in the installation form, shown in the screenshot below:
5.1 – Install on domain – Select the domain to install the WordPress blog
5.2 – Install directory – If you want your blog in a different location than the root (i.e. the home page), use a directory name (such as domain.com/blog)
5.3 – Administrator username – Type in a username – you need this to enter the protected admin area
5.4 – Administrator password – Type in a password – you need this to enter the protected admin area
5.5 – Admin nickname – Type in an admin nickname
5.6 – Admin email address – choose a safe email address. If you lose your blog’s password, you can request a new password, which will be sent to this email address.
5.7 – Site Name – Type in the name of your blog
5.8 – Description – Type in a short description about your blog.
Step 6 – Click [Install WordPress]
Step 7 – Click on [Finish installation]
Step 8 – SAVE YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD
Step 9 – go to http://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin
Step 10 – you will see the log-in screen below. Type in your Username and Password and click [Log In].
Congratulations – you have successfully installed WordPress. Now it’s time to publish your content.
